Concrete Sign Post Base Installation Procedure

Learn How Concrete Sign Post Bases Get Installed

In this video, we show you how to install a concrete sign post base on a concrete sidewalk. The same techniques that we show, performed on a SNAPn' SAFE surface mount breakaway sign post base for square tube, apply no matter which style of concrete sign post base you are installing, or which type of sign post.

Whether it's a Traffic Safety Products original, Flat-Mounted Concrete Base (FMCB) or an angle-iron style Flat Concrete Base (FCB) - both for square tubing - or a Snap n’ Safe Breakaway Signpost Base for square tube, u channel sign post, or round sign posts (see below for examples).

Helpful Tools to Have on Hand for the Job:

  • Drill
  • Concrete Drill Bit
  • Impact Driver / Socket Wrench
  • Socket Set

Installation Procedure for Flat Mounted Concrete Bases

  1. Begin by placing your base on the ground where you'll be installing it, and use it as a template to mark your holes for drilling.
  2. Next, using the appropriately sized concrete drill bit for your installation hardware, drill your holes according to the base manufacturer's specifications.
  3. Then line your base up over the holes and use an impact driver to fasten your installation hardware into the concrete.
  4. Once that's done, you can slide your signpost onto the upright portion of the base.
  5. Now you're ready to attach your sign post to your post base with your attachment hardware.
  6. Once you've tightened all of your hardware, installation is complete, and your post is ready for signs!
